Program Overview:
My Personal Virtual Academy (MPVA) is a comprehensive K-4 literacy and learning initiative designed to combat reading failure and foster independent, critical thinkers and lifelong learners. Our whole-child approach emphasizes not only reading and literacy but integrates foundational skills across all subject areas, including math, science, and social-emotional learning (SEL). MPVA also emphasizes the importance of community involvement by training parents and community members, creating a supportive network to reinforce learning and growth.
Program Goals:

1. Foundational Literacy Skills
-Phonics & Phonemic Awareness: Structured, sequential lessons that focus on sound-letter relationships, word decoding, and fluency. -Comprehension & Vocabulary: Interactive read-alouds, vocabulary-building activities, and comprehension exercises that emphasize making connections and understanding complex texts. -Writing Practice: Daily writing activities ranging from simple sentence construction to structured storytelling and informational writing for older grades.
2. Math & Science Integration
Math Fundamentals: Emphasis on numeracy, number sense, and basic arithmetic, designed to build confidence and foster a growth mindset around math. Inquiry-Based Science: Age-appropriate science experiments and hands-on activities to nurture curiosity and analytical thinking. Focus & Working Memory: Activities that enhance attention span, memory, and flexibility in thinking—crucial skills for academic tasks and independent problem-solving. 5. Listening & Speaking Skills
Oral Language Development: Daily interactive read-alouds, story retelling, and vocabulary expansion exercises. Public Speaking Practice: Opportunities to speak in group settings, share ideas, and present projects to build confidence and fluency in speaking.
